Dukan Diet FAQ: When Can I Eat Nuts on the Dukan Diet?

Although nuts are high in protein they do not appear in the list of 100 allowed foods because of their high fat content.

This means that you are not allowed to eat nuts or any food containing nuts in the Attack or Cruise Phases of the Dukan diet unless you buy Dr Dukan’s Gourmet low-fat chocolate and hazelnut spread with sweeteners.  If you buy this product which contains quite a few other ingredients that are off limits you are permitted to enjoy one level tablespoon as one of your two daily tolerated items in the Cruise Phase.

This spread is not the only product sold by Dr Dukan in his official shops which break his own rules and it seems he doesn’t even know what ingredients they contain.  To give you an example the Onion & Yellow Pepper Snack Vegetables are described as being “real vegetables without added fat” but if you check out the ingredients of the grilled onion snacks you will see they contain sunflower oil.  Both snack vegetables also contain sugar – the onions have dextrose and the peppers have sucrose which seems very odd given Dr Dukan’s aversion to any added in sugar

      Sorry no – all nuts are not allowed food so have to wait until your Celebration meals in Consolidation or Stablisation.

    Hi Amber.i am planning to start the diet soon I love my milk tea and coffee even flavoured tea I can go for it but with honey as I don’t like sweetener I am allergic to it can I use honey plz advice.thanks

      You can get gluten free oat bran but if this isn’t suitable or you can’t find it you just leave it out as there are no substitues for oat bran.

    I didn’t start the diet yet,but I’m preparing for it. There is not mention of legumes such as beans, chick peas, hummus and such. Can we incorporate it in any of the 4phases?

      Legumes are too starchy to be included in the standard Dukan Diet. If you are following the vegetarian version they are allowed.

      Remember you don’t need to be hungry. If this happens have something protein to eat. Protein foods are more satisfying than other foods which is why the Dukan works.

      You won’t be hungry. You might experience some sugar cravings in the first couple of days, but that will pass quickly if you really hang in the attack phase.
      Protein fills you up nicely and will stop the cravings. Also, there is no quantity restriction of the allowed foods, so you can eat a lot any time you want. Just drink a lot of liquid, as the body needs it to digest. Good luck!

    Hello- Can you use coconut oil instead of olive oil? what about eating chicken or beef liver (organ meats) during attack phase?

    Hi Amber,
    I’ve been on the dukan diet for almost 3 months now! I passed the attack phase for one week and I’m on my cruise phase now! I’m 170 cm and weigh about 70 kg and i still need to lose 10 kilos! Basically my diet consists of one big white protein meal( fish or chicken breast) for lunch my tbs of oat bran for breakfast and my tolerated tbsp of cornflour! i am prediabetic so I take siofor 1000 twice a day and 2 tablets of a fat burner called lilas! I drink my 2 liters of water and walk for 1 and half hour 3-4 times a week! But the thing is lately iv been cheating on some raw nuts and seeds(mono saturated fats) and skipping days without eating any vegetables and i don’t eat too much dairy eggs or red meat! And i can’t seem to get back to the strict cruise phase rules, however these are my regular eating habits any advices?!

    I love eating nuts, especially pistachios. Before i started my Dukan diet i took raw mixed nuts almost every morning with my breakfast cereal (mainly rolled oats) and i love to bake my own granola for a quick snack in which i mix nuts, oats, little dried fruits and seeds ( chia and lin, and sometimes sunflower seeds).
    My question is, when i reach Stabilisation Phrase, am i allowed to go back to my breakfast routine ? Or can i sometimes eat those in the Consodilation Phrase?

      Hi Sweet

      You’d only be able to eat nuts as part of a Celebration meal in Consolidation but once you reached Stabilisation you could go back to your previous breakfast routine. However remember that if you don’t change your eating habits the weight won’t stay off.

        Dear Amber,
        Thank you very much for your reply. I’ll always keep that in mind. By the way, could you please suggest me a light, healthy and easy to prepare breakfast? I usually had cereal or snack bars or my granola with milk ,’cos i thaught it’s easy to digest and din’t make me feel bloated. I can’t have my stomach empty before hitting the gym. if i had not eaten anything, I’d feel dizzy, craving for food in the class (my pilates class starts@0945).
