Drinks for the Dukan Diet

If you are looking something to a little different to drink other than water or diet sodas whilst you are following the Dukan Diet you might like to try one of the drinks listed below.

Different Drinks That Are Allowed on the Dukan Diet

  • Low Carb Creamy Hot Chocolate is a recipe which should be avoided in the Attack Phase as it uses tolerated foods.  It makes a great bedtime drink or is a lovely drink to warm you up on chilly days.

  • Winter Warming Eggnog is a drink that you can enjoy in any phase of the diet.  This recipe allows you to enjoy a lighter, healthier and less calorie laden version of the traditional winter holiday drink of eggnog which is alcohol free.
  • Mint Lassi a refreshing cooling drink again for any phase of the diet.  The addition of tofu provides additional protein to help keep hunger at bay.
  • Skinny Latte is a coffee with the calories reduced to the bare minimum.  You don’t have to go to Starbucks as you can make your own to enjoy at anytime using milk from your daily allowance and a sugar free syrup.

These sugar free syrups are not calorie free but they are very low in calories as they have less than 5 calories per serving.  The nutritional labeling laws of the US Food & Drug Administration allow foods containing less than 5 calories per serving to be labeled as calorie free.  These syrups can also be used to liven up your Dukan galette or oat bran pancake or added to yogurts so they can be very useful items to have in your kitchen cupboards.  If you are wondering what ingredients these syrups have the Torani French Vanilla contains purified water, natural flavors, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), xanthan gum, sucralose (Splenda brand), citric acid and acesulfame potassium.

  • Iced Green Tea makes a delightful change to drinking it hot.  There are many types of green tea and is a delicious drink and as you may already know Dr Dukan is a great fan of green tea because of the health benefits and its diuretic properties and he based his Non Stop Green Tea Plateau Buster on the it.]
  • Iced Coffee is also very popular around the world as I found out from this Wikipedia article.  The Italian “caffè freddo” is definitely a little different.  It is straight espresso kept in a freezer and served as icy slush
  • Vegetable Juices can be drunk on PV days in Cruise but you need to be careful if you are not making your own as some of the store bought varieties contain a lot of sodium.  One of the most popular varieties V8 does a low sodium version in both Original and Spicy Hot.

Other Drinks That Are Allowed on the Dukan Diet

  • All forms of tea, fruit tea, herbal teas, black tea, green tea and white tea.
  • All coffees.
  • Still, sparkling and tap water but you should avoid Badoit and San Pellegrino as they are very high in sodium.
  • Diet sodas that have one calorie or less per serving but these are limited to three per day.
  • Skim milk
  • Soy milk if lactose intolerant or one glass as one of your tolerated items in Cruise.

 Drinks Not Allowed on the Dukan Diet

  • Any form of alcohol
  • Drinks containing fruit
  • Drinks containing sugar
  • Diet drinks with more than one calorie per serving

      It is yes to the yogurt and no to the syrup as it contains other types of sugar such as Corn Syrup and Molasses.

    Hiya i am wanting to start the dukan diet again however my work regime at the moment is a bit haphazard. I work 3 nights on and 3 nights off continuously and also work mon, wed and fri 9am – between 6 and 8pm. Somedays i get very very little sleep as im finishing nightshift and starting the other job more or less straight away. How can i adapt this lifestyle with the dukan diet?

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

      My advice would be don’t use the Dukan Diet. If you mix your extremely demanding work schedule with a demanding diet plan either you will break the diet or the diet and your work schedule will break you.

      Protein shakes or similar are not allowed. This product is also quite high in carbs having 12 g of carbs before you add the milk.

    All of these recipes sound great and I am doing to try them.

    I just started my cruise phase and the scale is moving in the downward direction, but I am curious.

    I am a Starbucks fanatic, but I always got the crazy “bad for you” drink. I wasn’t sure if getting the small iced skinny vanilla latte once in a while would be ok on the Cruise phase.

    Hi Amber – I’ve been using a flavored “water enhancer” that has 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sugar and 0 fat. It does have 30mg of sodium/ serving. Is that enough sodium to be working against me?

    I typically have 1 liter of water containing the flavor enhancer per day.

      If you suffer from water retention this drink isn’t going to help but a lot will depend on the levels of sodium in the other food and drinks you are consuming. Do you think you are suffering from water retention?

        I was thinking of water retention as a cause for my stagnation, but then lost 1 lb. yesterday. There is minimal sodium in my food and I’m not drinking anything else at the moment.

        I’m currently on the 9th day of 1PP/ 1PV cruise and have tried the all-green tea regimen.

    Are walden farms products allowed? They have 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, and 0 sodium. I am currently using the raspberry jam and the ingredients are: water, raspberry flavor, natural flavors, sucralose, citric acid, cellulose gel, red cabbage color, xantham gum and sodium benzoate

      Many people use the Walden Farms salad dressings on the Dukan but I’ve not been asked about jam before, but if the jam is zero fat/carbs/calories it should be fine to use too.

    I’ve been reading your website for the last few days & just wanted to say thank you, it’s a really great resource!

    Can you drink vita coco? It’s 100% Natural young coconut Water

    Info per 100ml
    Cals: 19Kcal
    Carbs 5g
    & of which saturates 5g
    Fat 0
    Fibre 0

    The reason why I ask is because I’m planning to continue with my bikram/hot yoga sessions & you sweat a lot during the sessions, so this drink really rehydrated you! (I’m on the fist week of cruise).. I lost 8lbs on attack & need to lose another 10-14lbs before moving to stabilisation!

      Hi Lulu

      During a period of high intensity exercise Dr Dukan allows a small amount of orange juice to be sipped so if you were happy to adapt his guidance and replace the orange juice with coconut water you could do so but I’d suggest limiting yourself to 200 ml or less. If you need additional fluid on top of this I’d go with water.

    I used to use the generic brand of crystal light to liven up my yogurt and water, until I found that I couldn’t based on the fact that it’s 5 cal per serving. Can I just use a fraction of the powder and still follow the diet correctly. Also, are Walden Farms products okay to use? They are sugar, calorie, and carb free. Thank you.       If you want to use a small amount so that you stay under the 1 cal per serving limit that is fine but you should have no more than three servings a day. Yes Walden Farms carb free/ calorie free products are fine to use.

    I have come to a barrier on the cruise phase I have stayed the same weight for 3 weeks now i think I am eating to much I drink lots of water and tea I have breakfast lunch and dinner and constantly on the go with my little one, do u have any other ideas I can get tho this barrier:(

    I’m a little confused as to the diet soda and juice . I have been drinking small amounts of robinsons no added sugar dilute is this not allowed it has 10% fruit juice from concentrate 9kcal per 100ml 1.1g carbs per 100lm and trace fat

      Fruit juice, other than lemon juice in cooking, is not allowed because of the sugar it contains and this is why fruit is not allowed. The diet soda rules are that a serving should have 1 calorie or less and that you should not have any more than 3 servings a day.

    I’m a happy woman–I’ve been using the DaVinci sugar free syrups for years (basically water, flavoring, and Splenda) both as a drink enhancer (really brightens up that fatfree milk) and as a baking flavoring as you suggest.
    Peppermint Paddy tea? Steep a bag of peppermint tea in maybe 6 oz of water until you have a strong brew. Add a splash of chocolate sugar free syrup and then fill up the cup w/ fatfree milk; reheat as needed. Delicious.

    I am in the cruise phase but I noticed my weight is currently at a standstill and I am guessing because I am not eating enough. It is mainly because I am on the go. Would a protein shake suffice sometimes in between meals?

      If you think you are not eating enough you should increase the amount of food you are eating but it needs to be real food not protein shakes as Dr Dukan doesn’t allow the use of these shakes in the weight loss phases of the diet.
