How Much Oat Bran Do You Eat on the Dukan Diet?

Visitors to the site have been looking for more information about oat bran and for recipes using oat bran so this is going to be the topic of my next few postings. One visitor was looking for the answer to whether you can eat unlimited oat bran on the Dukan Diet. The simple answer to this is no you can’t.


You eat oat bran in every phase or stage of the Dukan Diet and increase the amount of oat bran that you eat as you progress through the stages, but the amount of oat bran you can eat in each phase is restricted. Although oat bran does have a beneficial impact you can have too much of a good thing and exceeding the prescribed limits of oat bran, in any phase of the diet, can stop you losing weight or even see your weight start to creep up again.

It is important to remember that the Dukan Diet is a high protein, low fat, low carb eating plan and oat bran is a carbohydrate.

In the Attack Phase or Phase 1 you can eat 1.5 tablespoons every day and this increases by 0.5 tablespoon as you progress through the other Phases. Cruise Phase or Phase 2 is 2 tablespoons, Consolidation Phase or Phase 3 is 2.5 tablespoons and Stabilisation Phase or Phase 4 is 3 tablespoons.

You can add extra oat bran to your diet after the Attack Phase by using your daily tolerated items allowance. Two additional tablespoons of oat bran are considered as one of your two tolerated items.

    Hi, I’ve got a question about the dukan cereal bars he sells on his site. On his site ne seems to suggest you can have an oat b ran cereal bar on top of yiur 2 tablespoons of oat bran a day? Is that correct? Thx

      Yes you can have these in addition to your daily oat bran but treat them as your daily tolerated items in Cruise.

    I have a wheat grinder and can grind oats of any kind. Can I grind my steel cut oats and use that as oat bran? I really would like to use what I’ve got.
    Also I have soaked wheat berries, which are full of protein. Can they be used on PP days?

      Ground steel cut oats aren’t the same as oat bran so it isn’t a swap I could approve and wheat berries are too high in carbs to be suitable for inclusion in the Dukan.

      You can leave the oat bran out of the Dukan if needed as there are no substitutes.

    Hi Amber

    Does it mean I’m restricted to 1 piece of oat barn gallet per day during the attack phase? Since I’m only allowed 1.5 tablespoon of oat bran a day and the recipe for 1 serving of gallet contains 1.5 tablespoon of oat bran.

    Hi Amber, after reading the web site i realized in order for the diet to work properly i needed to eat 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran a day, please correct me if im wrong. well the oat bran i purchased is Hodgson Mill wheat bran, im not sure if oat bran and wheat bran are the same. i had a hard time finding anything labeled oat bran, if this is wrong is it possible for you to tell me which oat bran brand to get and i could possibly order it online, also what should i do with the wheat bran? can i still use it at all?

      Oat bran and wheat bran are not the same. Oat bran has been shown to have some very beneficial health benefits and this is why Pierre Dukan included this food in his diet.

      Oat bran can be purchased online and Hodgson Mill also sell oat bran

      Hodgson Mill Oat Bran, Hot Cereal, 16-Ounce (Pack of 12)

      As do Bob’s Red Mill
      Bob’s Red Mill Organic Oat Bran Hot Cereal, 18-Ounce Bags (Pack of 4)

      The wheat bran can be used in addition to the oat bran to help combat constipation but you should not have more that 1 tablespoon of wheat bran each day.

      Oat bran can be purchased at Kroger in the health food section. If you have a Kroger. That’s where I found it.
