Dukan Diet News: Green Coffee Bean Extract Aids Weight Loss

Having just written a post yesterday on Dr Dukan’s Non Stop Green Tea Plateau Buster it seemed only right to rebalance the tea: coffee equilibrium and share with you some very recent news on the possible slimming effects of green coffee beans.

The findings of a small study funded by Applied Food Sciences, an American manufacturer of green coffee extract products has just been presented in San Diego to the American Chemical Society at their national meeting.

The study was carried out in India for 18 weeks using just 16 obese or overweight volunteers aged between 22 and 26.  These volunteers were instructed to keep to their normal eating  habits and to take capsules of extracts of green coffee each day.  The study was split into three six week periods and volunteers took capsules each day that contained either a placebo,  700 mg of green coffee extract or 1050 mg of the extract.   It was a “cross-over” study where the volunteers cycle through all three types of capsules and it is considered to be more accurate as each person acts as their own control.

Although the results do need to be tempered due to the small scale of the study and the possible conflict of interest arising from the funding they were very impressive.  The volunteers dropped their weight by an average of 17 pounds, reducing their overall body weight by an average of 10.5% and their body fat by an average of 16%.

Green Coffee Bean Extracts are not a new products but they are currently promoted for their ability to control glucose levels rather than as a weight loss aid.

I was at the cruise phase, I went on vacation and gained 7 lbs. Should I do the attack phase for 5 days or 3 days?

    • Amber on July 13, 2017

      Hi Patsy

You should start on Cruise again with a PP day. The Attack Phase is not repeatable as it is too restrictive nutritionally.

Green coffee beans are the same as regular coffee beans, except that they haven’t been roasted yet. They are high in a substance called Chlorogenic Acid.

Hi Amber I finished the attack phase and now started cruise phase but feel downnn… deviation seems my period on the way and I am having cravings… please how i get back on trackkk what should be done??

    • Amber on January 14, 2014

      Hi Chadia

It is very common for cravings to appear at your time of the month. Remember you can eat as much of the pure protein foods as you like and eating a hard boiled egg can help. Another tip is where you have the cravings at a particular time of day to save your daily portion of oat bran to have at this time. If you are really desperate on a PP day you may be able to cope by turning it to a PV day instead.

      Try to stay strong.

      Best wishes

Does green coffee extract really work? Also what are the best ones? And green tea? Which is the best green tea because green tea is sold everywhere but not sure which one to buy?

    • Amber on June 13, 2013

      Hi Sab

I’m afraid I can’t vouch for green coffee bean extract products but I have used many different brands of green tea and have never noticed any difference.

      Kind regards
