Dukan Diet News: Green Coffee Bean Extract Aids Weight Loss
Having just written a post yesterday on Dr Dukan’s Non Stop Green Tea Plateau Buster it seemed only right to rebalance the tea: coffee equilibrium and share with you some very recent news on the possible slimming effects of green coffee beans.
The findings of a small study funded by Applied Food Sciences, an American manufacturer of green coffee extract products has just been presented in San Diego to the American Chemical Society at their national meeting.
The study was carried out in India for 18 weeks using just 16 obese or overweight volunteers aged between 22 and 26. These volunteers were instructed to keep to their normal eating habits and to take capsules of extracts of green coffee each day. The study was split into three six week periods and volunteers took capsules each day that contained either a placebo, 700 mg of green coffee extract or 1050 mg of the extract. It was a “cross-over” study where the volunteers cycle through all three types of capsules and it is considered to be more accurate as each person acts as their own control.
Although the results do need to be tempered due to the small scale of the study and the possible conflict of interest arising from the funding they were very impressive. The volunteers dropped their weight by an average of 17 pounds, reducing their overall body weight by an average of 10.5% and their body fat by an average of 16%.
Green Coffee Bean Extracts are not a new products but they are currently promoted for their ability to control glucose levels rather than as a weight loss aid.
