Dukan Diet Tip: Dr Dukan’s Non Stop Green Tea Plateau Buster

One of the most common problems that followers of the Dukan Diet ask for advice on is how to break through a period of weight loss stagnation.

This is a problem which seems to affect most dieters as Dr Pierre Dukan advises us that he doesn’t know of anyone who has lost twenty pounds or more without experiencing at least one plateau lasting for at least 6 days.

Water retention is the most common reason for a period without weight loss if the diet is being followed as Dr Dukan intended and when you remember that green tea is a great diuretic it makes perfect sense for Dr Dukan to base one of his plateau busting techniques on green tea.

Green tea is also credited with being able to help block fat absorption and to burn fat through thermogenesis.  Research has shown that an average person can burn an extra 70 to 80 calories each day through drinking 5 cups of green tea .

The rules of his Non Stop Green Tea Plateau Buster are quite simple for three days you replace all the water that you drink with green tea.  You need to you drink this green tea throughout the whole day.  Dr Dukan even suggests drinking green tea in the middle of the night if you need to get up to visit the bathroom, given the amount of green tea you will be drinking and its diuretic properties this might be every night!!

You can have your green tea hot or cold, with or without ice or even have it as a sorbet.

Apart from combating water retention and aiding weight loss, green tea also contains compounds and antioxidants that are good for our general health.  These  antioxidants are called catechins and the minimal processing required to produce green tea means that these catechins are more concentrated than in other types of tea.  They help our bodies fight against free radicals that can damage our DNA and cause cancer, atherosclerosis and blood clots.

    I have lost 50 lbs on the Dukan Diet and have 3 lbs that I cannot get rid of. I have been at a cruise phase plateau for 3 weeks. I have increased walking and added an additional PP day to my routine. No luck! Any suggestions? Please help😖

      Hi Kathy

      Your body is trying really hard to hang on to these last few pounds of fat. You could try moving to Consolidation for a few weeks and then back to Cruise.
