The Dukan Diet: Fresh Update on Using Olive Oil & Other Oils

A month ago I posted an update on using oil and olive oil in the Dukan Diet advising that Dr Dukan had now adjusted his diet to allow the use of two teaspoons of oil – olive or rapeseed.  I have just read the transcript of yesterday’s online coaching chat and this guidance has now been adjusted again.  I’ve copied an extract of this transcript below in which Dr Dukan advises that he only allows one teaspoon of oil per day.

Reading Dr Dukan’s response below you might think that the information given in my post a month ago was incorrect but if you read the post you will see that it includes the extract of the replies given by Dr Dukan and one of the coaches Virginie from the online coaching both of which advise that it is two teaspoons that are allowed.

Franckie63 : Good morning Dr Dukan and the Dukan diet team ! I’m on cruise phase and I heard that from a few weeks we are now allowed to have 2 teaspoons of oil (olive or rapeseed) per day. Is that true ? I’m a little confused because the oil used to be forbidden in this phase. So can I have 2 or 1 teaspoon of oil per day, or nothing at all ? Thanks a lot. Dr Dukan : Dear Franckie, your question is coming at the right time. Actually, I have added ONE tea spoon of oil (olive or rapeseed) for many reasons: to fight against constipation, oil is a good lubrifiant, oil can help in case of dry skin, and moreover because fat is not my top enemy, as this is actually sugar which is my topest one. Please remember ONE and certainly not two. Merry Christmas and all the best for this coming year;

    Hi! I’m new to this and my main concern is for the last phase. From your experience, is one day of PP in the end phase enough to more or less maintain weight and not gain back all the pounds? I feel skeptical about it but I haven’t reached that part yet so i dont know.. Im just nervous my weight will go yo-yo back and forth between gain and maintan.

      You also have to eat your daily serving of oat bran each day. You will gain weight through the week until the day of PP. If this day isn’t enough to make up for a week where you’ve eaten a lot put in a couple of days of PV too.

    Hi Amber

    My husband has been on the dukan diet for 11 days and has only had a couple of insignificant bowel movements.

    He is trying senakot tablets today but we were wondering if it is OK to take a teaspoon of CASTOR OIL per day to get the bowels moving again.

    He would be naturally prone to constipation anyway.

    Can you have fat free cheese in phase one. my book says no cheese but yes to fat free cream cheese, sour cream, greek yogurt. I am confused…thanks

      Fat free cheese other than those listed are not officially approved but many people chose to bend the rules and eat fat free cheese as a dairy protein.

    What can I use to cook with during the Attack phase? Can olive oil or some kind of butter be used to sautee meats and add some flavor to the dish?

      You can use very small amounts of olive oil from Cruise but in Attack you need to dry fry or use a little water.

      Oaken Fat free yogurt is allowed in all phases so it isn’t a food that would normally prevent you losing weight unless eaten in large quantities.

      Any type of fish is fine. Dr Dukan just lists individual species to make up his list of 100 foods.

      There is no replacement for a food that you don’t like or can’t eat. You just eat the foods you can eat.

    Dear Amber,
    I am so upset, i have been on attack phase for 7 days and have only lost 1kg, today i found online that it could be to using Onken sugar free yoghurt? My Dukan book has not arrived yet so i didn’5 realise there was the 2/7 rule. Do you think it is really down to that? Also i gave birth 2 months ago, could it be down to the post pregnancy hormones? I am so annoyed. Also i used coconut milk, which has less calories than skimmed milk and low in sugar, home that is not the saboteur! Thanks so much!

      Hi Dina

      Onken fat free yogurts are very high in sugar and are not suitable and neither is coconut milk. The 2/7 rule came from the paid coached version of the diet so may not be in the book.

      You are not counting calories on the Dukan Diet so should not substitute a lower calorie item which is not allowed for one that is.

      Your hormones will still be settling down so losing weight may be more difficult, but you should still lose weight if you follow the diet correctly.

    Iam on cruise phase iam 82.5 kgs and my ideal weight is 69 week i will start fasting for a whole month (i won’t eat or drink till 7 pm) so iam asking is this will retard losing weight? And if yes what should i do to increase my metabolism?iam so in hurry to loss weight as i will travel on 4th of august germany and france.thank you

      I’m sorry that I don’t speak Spanish. I’ve used Google Translator and I think you are saying that you’ve gained 3 kg since 9 April 2014 when you finished Consolidation Phase and are asking for advice on what to do. I’d suggest going back to Cruise to lose the weight gained and then look at what you’ve have been eating and drinking in Stabilisation. The Dukan Thursday helps to balance some excess eating/drinking in the other 6 days but it can only do so much.

    I’m confused on two points I was hoping you could help me clarify.
    During the last three phases, not including the attack phase, oil is one teaspoon a day? Does this include stabilization phase as well?
    Also, random question – avocados? Obviously not permitted in the first two phases but any recommendation on them for the second two phases?
    Thanks for any help, I’m pretty new to this!

      Yes you are allowed 1 teaspoon of oil a day until you reach Stabilisation when there is no limit except on Dukan Thursdays. Avocados would only be allowed in the celebration meal in Consolidation as they are not a recommended fruit.

    Hi, Ive been hearing different versions of this diet. One person says you can have a cheat day once a week but the following 2 days should be PP days. Someone else said you don’t get a cheat day at all. Im confused and Ive worked too hard to ruin it.

      There are no cheat days on the Dukan Diet but there is a version of the diet which has 2 days of PP followed by 5 days of sensible eating. This version is said to be particularly good to help with cellulite.

      The normal version of Cruise is to alternative one day of PP with one day of PV.

      In reference to what Teresa thinks is a cheat day, is she referring to a celebration meal? At least that’s what I’m getting from her post. That “cheat meal” doesn’t come until you’ve reached your goal and are in the consolidation phase.

        Teresa might be talking about a celebration meal but it is really difficult to tell as you don’t have to have follow your celebration meal with any number of days of PP you only have to have PP once a week on Dukan Thursday.

    I m on my consolidation phase & yesterday night I did gala diner but had 3 glass of wine,bread,olives & ice cream as question is I m scared & feel guilty to be on the safe diet can I do 3 days pure protein to chock my body than will continue my consolidation phase normaly

    Dear Dr Dukan
    Thank you very much for the amazing diet . I really enjoyed it .
    I started my cruise phase on 14/01/2013 and that time I was 88 kg today I am 78 kg and I am still in the attach phase but I observed dryness only in my face though I drink my water daily my concern is it common with this diet to get dryness in the face ??
    I am very worry about this skin condition .
