Dukan Diet Cruise Phase Recipe: Tofu Saag Paneer

This is a Cruise Phase Recipe which can only be used on PV days due to the spinach it contains. It can be used by anyone following the Dukan Diet including vegans and vegetarians. It is a variation of the Indian dish Saag Paneer which uses a type of Indian cheese called paneer.  The tofu is used to replace the paneer.

Tofu Saag Paneer

Ingredients

  • 8 oz of cubed Extra-firm Tofu
  • 10 oz packet of thawed and drained Frozen Leaf Spinach
  • 1/2 cup of Plain Soya Yogurt
  • 1/4 cup Plain Soya Milk
  • 1 chopped medium Onion
  • 2 cloves of finely chopped Garlic
  • 2 teaspoons of Curry Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of grated Fresh Ginger
Method
  1. Dry fry tofu cubes until browned and put to one side.
  2. Dry fry onions and garlic until soft adding a little water if needed.
  3. Add in curry powder and ginger and cook for a couple more minutes.
  4. Add spinach with two tablespoons of water and cook until the water has almost all evaporated.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in soya yogurt and milk.
  6. Finally gently stir in tofu cubes and serve.

This looks really good (Indian food addict here). This can also be made lactovegetarian using dairy yogurt and milk–paneer is out there but has too much fat. Paneer is made essentially the same as ricotta but then is compressed/drained into firm cakes which can the be cubed.
I may make this my first day of Cruise on Sunday–switching over to the vegetarian version when my meat/fish stash is used up b/c the cost of the meat is eating me up (still using milk and eggs, though).

      Hi Mary S

I’m glad you like the recipe. Switching between the vegetarian and non vegetarian version will help keep cost down and also give you more variety.

      Kind regards

      Amber:)

Would a little vegetable oil slow my weight loss. I have a tin of Saag (spinach) but its has veg oil in it, I’m wondering would it destroy my good work. I wouldn’t be eating the whole tin in one sitting.

      Hi Gee

I can’t tell you how any lapse would reflect on your weight loss, many people bend the rules a little to make the diet easier for them and still lose weight. Most canned spinach doesn’t contain a lot of oil so it is probably something you can get away with.

      Best wishes
