How do I Follow the Dukan Diet while on Holiday?

The Internet is a wonderful resource and I’ve just found some really useful information about following the Dukan Diet whilst on holiday in an article in the UK on line newspaper the Daily Mail

Dr Dukan has adapted the Consolidation Phase of his diet to allow you to enjoy great food and a glass of wine every day whilst you are on holiday without the pounds piling back on again.  I think it is an excellent idea as so many dieters hit the rails whilst on holiday and often never recover once the holiday is over.  Dr Dukan is providing a sensible option – he is not expecting you to eat like a saint while you are away from home but he does expect you to exercise some control over what you are eating and drinking.

So what do you have to do:

  • Follow a normal PV day diet, six days out of seven, concentrating on eating low fat pure protein such as meat, chicken, fish or seafood with salad and vegetables together with low fat dairy products.
  • Add in 2 slices of wholemeal bread, 30 grams of hard cheese and one serving of fruit per day.
  • Have between 2 and 4 tablespoons of oat bran each day – consider taking your own supply with you.
  • Follow a PP day for one day a week.
  • Have two Celebration Meals per week – no seconds are allowed and these meals should not follow each other.
  • Drink 2 liters of water each day.
  • Enjoy one glass of wine each day.
  • Walk at least 25 minutes per day.

Hello! I know this thread is a year old but I thought I might get a response. I’m currently in my fourth week of cruise phase. I’ve lost 30 pounds overall and I’m super inspired. BUT I leave for France in two days and we’ll be gone for two weeks. I’m really nervous to ruin all that I’ve worked so hard for. Should I follow the holiday diet even though I’m in cruise? And when I get back how do I know how many days to do PP? Thank you so much!!

      Hi Michelle

Yes you should follow the Holiday version for your two weeks holiday. The most important thing to do is enjoy your holiday but without going over board on food and drink. When you come back do 2 days PP before moving to a PV day and continuing with Cruise.

      Best wishes

Can you have more than the recommended oat bran on the attack and cross phase? What about roasted seaweed snacks? I love the Kirkland ones from Costco.

    • Amber on July 25, 2014

      Hi Kelly

You should stick to the daily limit of oat allowed in all phases and roasted seaweed is too high in fat to be suitables. It is nearly 50% fat.

      Kind regards

Dear Amber, first of all thank you for all the answers and positive mood in this forum! I started the diet 43 days ago and I have lost 10 kilos! I lost 4 in the attack phase(9 days) and another 6 in the cruise phase till now. Haven’t cheated at all and I track my calories out of curiocity only daily consuming anywhere between 700 to 1500 calories. I am 106 kilos now and my true weight is 73.. I remember I am skinny at 80 actually so I will be happy then. I am stuck 9 days now not losing anything. I exercise almost everyday walking in a fast pace 30 to 50 minutes. I eat my ota bran i follow by the book! what could be wrong? Can I do something to move the scale a little downwards? I am losing hope 🙁 thx K.

      Hi Kate

A period of stagnation can be caused by many things but the most common problems are water retention and/or constipation. Could you be suffering with either?

      Kind regards

      Amber:)

        Hi Amber,

Thnaks for your prompt responce! Yes actually I am suffering from constipation. I tried broccoli on PV days and rhubard and cellery but i go like every 3 days a liiittle bit! Should I increase my calorie intake or dukan has nothing to do with calories? cause usually i am around 700 to 1200 calories per day!

    Hi amber,

I have been doing attack phase and have only lost 2kg. Is that normal?shouldn’t I loose more?

Iv started the cruise phase and will be travelling for 3weeks while have been on cruise for 3 weeks.

    What should I follow.

    • Amber on March 24, 2014

      Hi Sarah

How long have you been following the Attack Phase? The amount of weight lost in the Attack phase does vary from person to person but how long have you been following the Attack Phase?

While you are travelling you are going to need to try to follow the Dukan as closely as you can but if you follow the holiday version it will give you a little more freedom but it will mean that the amount of weight lost will be reduced.

      Best wishes

Thanks so much for your reply. I was on attack phase for like 6days. And lost 2kg. Now on cruise phase ,,wht can I do to speed things up a bit ,as my engagement is in 3wweeks .

Regarding the holiday I should follow the holiday regime?can I take out stuff like the toast and cheese or must?

        • Amber on March 26, 2014

          Hi Sarah

You can up the amount of exercise you do and cut out the two daily tolerated items to help speed up your weight loss and when you are on holiday if you want to restrict some of the items to help maintain your weight loss that will be fine.

          Enjoy your holiday.

          Best wishes

    Hi Amber,

I am on the cruise phase and am due to go abroad end of this month for 2 weeks. I’ll be in my 3rd week into the cruise phase when i go. Iv been doing really well and i dont want to ruin my diet. I am following the vegetarian version of the Dunkan diet, confused what i need to do if im on the cruise phase and also when i come back how do i resume the diet. Do i do the attack phase again?

    • Amber on January 16, 2014

      Hi Ash

Here is what you need to do on holiday

Follow as closely as you can your normal PV day diet, six days out of seven
Follow a PP day for one day a week
Add in 2 slices of wholemeal bread, 30 grams of hard cheese and one serving of fruit per day
Have between 2 and 4 tablespoons of oat bran each day – consider taking your own supply with you
Have two Celebration Meals per week – no seconds are allowed and these meals should not follow each other
Drink 2 liters of water each day
Enjoy one glass of wine each day
Walk at least 25 minutes per day

When you get back have 3 days of PP, which is only one extra day and is more than balanced by the PV days on holiday and then continue with the normal 1PV/1PP rhythm.

      Best wishes

Thats very helpful. Thank you so much for a prompt response. Just to clarify, I have 4 tbl spoons of oat bran anyway as i’m following the vegetarian version of the diet.

        1) Is there not an increase in the amount of oat bran given there’s an increase for the normal version?
        2) What ever your response, will this rule apply in the consolidation phase of the diet for me?

        • Amber on January 17, 2014

          Hi Ash

Given the higher level of carbs you are eating in the vegetarian version I wouldn’t recommend going beyond 4 tablespoons of oat bran in a day either on holiday or in Consolidation.

          Best wishes

          Amber:)

  • Lorna on December 3, 2013

    Hello,

I am going away for 7 days in february, and I will be on the consolidation phase.
I am looking at the holiday diet plan, and am wondering, since you mentioned the bread and cheese which are already a daily part of the consolidation, do I still eat my 1 serving of fruit and one starchy food per week on top of the 2 celebration meals etc that are listed for the holiday?

In other words, am I following the consolidation phase with the only difference being an opportunity to drink a glass of wine each evening and have 2 celebration meals instead of one (since i’ll only be in the first half of my consolidation phase).

    Thank you!
    Lorna

    • Amber on December 3, 2013

      Hi Lorna

That’s right. The Holiday Plan is the Second half of Consolidation plus wine.

      Kind regards

      Amber:)
