Stopped Losing Weight On Dukan Diet: White Day Pure Protein Day

My knowledge of the Dukan Diet comes from various sources and apart from the Dukan Diet book itself, there are also the Dukan Diet’s official websites and Facebook pages.    For example it has been by visiting the official Dukan Diet UK site at www.dukandiet.com that I discovered that you could eat up to three sugar free jellos a day and it is also where I found out about goji berries. However because Dr Dukan is continuing to fine tune his diet it can mean that you find conflicting advice and information.

One of the most recent additional pieces of information that I discovered is about the “White Day” pure protein only day which helps overcome weight loss stagnation and this information came from the Facebook pages of Dukan Diet – US.  The “White Day” is a very easy variation of your normal PP day, where instead of allowing yourself to eat from the list of 72 protein foods, you limit yourself to just eating as much high quality white proteins as you like, such as fat free dairy, white fish, chicken, turkey and eggs whites along with your normal serving of oat bran.   You try to avoid all other foods including tolerated items and increase the amount of walking that you do.

Although following a “White Day”  PP day fits within the rules of the Dukan Diet I would not personally eat like this on a regular basis as it is too restrictive and boring.  I can however see that a boost of high quality protein combined with the additional exercise could well help get your weight loss moving again.

Hi I did the dukan back in 2013 and succeeded at it but I remember a period of around two weeks where I weight the same number everyday … I wanted to lob them scales each time I saw it . I was being so good I just didn’t understand . I re read my dukan book and the words plateau stood out to me . This must be my plateau . My body fighting to retain itself . All I need to do I told myself is not lose heart . Then suddenly after those two weeks I got on the scale and bang down by a 1b the next day another half then by the end of the week 3lb off . Stay strong and stick with it . It’s not that your not losing weight it’s just your body trying to cling on to what it thinks it can . Eventually if your sticking to the protein and eating what was once helping you lose then rest assured one day when you least expect it you will drop off the plateau 😄

Thanks Clare. It’s exactly what I’m going through now….. 2 I already loss 4 kilos. 2 in the Attack phase and then 2 more in the cruise phase. I still have another week to go before consolidation. I think I will add extra white pure protein day. And try to add in the excercise time…..hopefully I will get there before the consolidation phase….I just need 2 more kilos!!! 😊

    Hi Amber,

I have been on dukan diet for two weeks. During the attack phase, I have dropped 2 pounds then i have dropped another 3 pounds during my first five days of my cruise phase. However, my weight went back half way only on my second day of my cruise phase. Is that normal? Or am i having too much veggie and too little protein on my PV days?

Also, is it ok if I have 5 days of PP and may be 3 days of PV during cruise phase to facilitate weight loss? Thanks a lot!

    • Ada on May 22, 2017

Perhaps I should give you more details here so you have a better idea of what’s going on:)

I first had five days for the attack phase — i dropped 3 to 4 pounds there actually

Then I had one to two days of PV and i put on 2 pounds there?

Then I had another five days of PP and i dropped another 3 pounds. Now i am officially in cruise phase and i had a big dinner at my friend’s place two days ago, having loads of red meat and veg with yuzu sauce (not sure if that’s the reason for all the water retention and may take some time to get rid of it?) Then I had loads of dehydrated mushrooms, all sorts of fungi as snacks on my PV days. and i have gained half of the weight i have lost only on my second day of PV? That’s why I am wondering if it will be feasible and healthy if i have five days of PP and 3 days of PV instead?

      • Amber on May 23, 2017

        Hi Ada

The number of PP days must equal the number of PV days to ensure that you get a more balanced diet. If you want to do 5 days of PP followed by 5 days of PV that will be fine.

It is important to eat mainly protein on PV days as it is the protein that satisfies your appetite and keeps your food intake under control. Vegetables promote water retention so this might well be why you gain water weight on PV days.

        Best wishes

        Amber:)

Anytime we have vegtable, we gain the next day. It is discouraging. I think it is just water retention. Do not weigh after vegtable day. Only weigh after protein day. You will lose

    Hi, Angela!
I have 50 lbs to lose. I did great on the Attack phase. When I hit the cruise phase, in the first week, I have stayed virtually the same weight for an entire week. Up and down .2 of a pound. I have not cheated once, have been doing an hour of exercise at least 4 of the days, with only two in a row. I have upped the intensity of my workouts. The last two days, I have been doing high intensity workouts from the 21 day fix, in addition to 1/2 an hour of walking. Earlier in the week, I did 45 min of Zumba in addition to 1/2 an hour of walking. I have been drinking my water, sometimes more than enough, because of the workouts.
It is incredibly frustrating to have stalled out in my first week…AND I have not cheated. I’m really not that hungry, surprisingly. I eat 3 meals plus, perhaps a snack.
It is not that time of the month, and I’m wondering if this diet will work out for me. Most of what I eat is white proteins. Periodically, I have some roast beef or salmon.
Most of my workouts are done before breakfast, to maximize the fat burning ability of exercising. After my exercises, I have scrambled eggs, mostly egg whites, with one or two yolks for breakfast.
Please give me some tips and some understanding as to why I haven’t lost anything in over a week.
…and suggestions on what I need to do to make it start happening. Am I exercising too much? Eating too little?
    Thank you so much!
    Courtney

      Hi Courtney

Our bodies are complex and there are many factors that feed into weight. You’ve mention the protein you are eating but not the vegetables. Vegetables have a tendency to cause water retention that does cause some people to have problems with weight yo-yoing form day to day. As you are exercising intensively you will also be converting some fat to muscle and the same volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat. Another factor could be additional water intake as you state you are drinking more than enough.

As you got on well on Attack I see no reason why the diet would not work for you. Those who are successful at losing weight are thosewho do not let set backs put them off.

Stay strong and stick with it.

      Kind regards

      Amber:)

Hi. I have found egg yolks to be a culprit. This is my 3rd major go at dukan.
You body at this point is fighting with all its internal mechanisms to regain what had been lost in such a short time. This is day 4 for me and I went from 196.6 to 187.6 in 4 days. Refuse to eat beef. Becareful with your salt intake as this will facilitate more water retention. Use the fat free dairy stuff sparingly. You body seems to find a way to skim what it needs from this. Stick to the brisk walking. I too once intensified my workout one time only to find my weight unchanged the next morning. Lastly buy a small sizes dress or jeans and use it as your confirmation for weight loss. The scale can cause u to hang on by its encouraging numbers or give up altogether. Check your weight only after attack days.

    • Amber on April 29, 2017

      Hi Abigail

The Attack phase does not provide such marked results for those close to their target weight. You are following the Dukan correctly so just be patient. You still have another 3 weeks for your holiday and should lose a little weight each week.

      Best wishes

Can I add fiber to my diet in the cruise Phase? I lost 12 pounds in the attack phase but then my body stopped shedding pounds so I started the next face and have been eating veggies every other day. I go to the gym 4 to 5 days a week and sometimes hiking on the weekends. But for this last week I haven’t lost any weight…idk why? I mean I don’t mind the healthier eating but I wish I was losing weight!

    • Amber on April 22, 2017

      Hi Mirla

Our bodies don’t lose weight in a stright line. There are many reasons for this. JUst be patient and your weight loss will start again.

      Stay strong

You should add he recommended 1 1/2 tablespoons of oat bran

  • Anna on April 11, 2017

Hi! I’ve started the Dukan diet all over again because after 6 months (I lost 10 kg) I started eating ‘bad’ things again. The thing is that now im afraid it might not work..
Plus I’m not eating so much..(only an omelette and tea for breakfast, chicken (usually) and salad if it’s the day for salad and that’s most of it..Is that a bad thing? Should I eat more?

    • Amber on April 12, 2017

      Hi Anna

Yes not eating enough is a bad thing. You must aim to eat 3 regular meals every day and eat a wide a variety of foods as you can. Eating just eggs, chicken and salad is not good for you. You are unlikely to be able to sustain this way of eating long term and you may reduce your metabolic rate.

      Best wishes

Hi there I started this diet not being overweight, but to lose the last 10lbs from having my son!…I have been on the cruise phase for two weeks and haven’t lost any weight ?….during attack phase I lost 4-5lbs!….wondering if it’s my body telling me to move to the next phase or am I just not gonna lose any more wieght?

    Thanks !

    • Amber on April 8, 2017

      Hi Rachel

You could move to Consolidation for a few weeks and then back to Cruise to see if you can shift those final few pounds.

    Hi,
I’ve been on the Dukan diet for almost a month now and have hit a plateau.
I exercise regularly and follow the diet to a t.
I’m on the cruise phase of 1pp 1vp
    I don’t know what to do …
    Thoughts ?

    • Amber on February 24, 2017

      Hi Dee

It is not unusual to hit a plateau, the key to your success will be holding firm through this period. Tips such as having Pure White PP days can help but more often than not it is just your monthly hormone cycle and after a few days things will get back on track.

      Kind regards

      Amber:)

        Hi

        I’ve hit yet another plateau.
I tried PWP day ( not fun ) and upped my exercise routine.
I did cut most pork out as well because I didn’t realize I was eating the wrong kind ( too fatty )

Since Jan 26,2017 I’ve lost 19 lbs and a lot of inches.
I still have that last ten to go and I’m feeling disheartened.
        I’m thinking it’s really hormonal , but I can’t be too sure.
Do you have any pointers ???

        • Amber on April 8, 2017

          Hi Dee

As you get closer to your target weight the going often gets much tougher. The smaller you needs less calories so if you are eating the same size meals your rate of weight loss will slow. It is imporatant to hang in there in order to achieve your goal.

          Best wishes

  • Nellie on February 16, 2017

    Hi Amber,

I am on Dukan for 2 1/2 weeks now. Unfortunately I do not feel i lost any weight maybe a couple of kilos; I haven’t weighted my self when I started. My clothes though feel the same and i am bloated all the time! I do not cheat at all, the only thing is that I do not count the milk & sometimes I may exceed but not sure and i eat more that 2 egg yolks a day sometimes… what is wrong??? I am disappointed and i am very close on quitting … pleaseeeee help

    • Amber on February 16, 2017

      Hi Nellie

You need to weigh yourself regularly to monitor your weight loss and monitor what you are eating to make sure you don’t exceed the dairy limit. You say you are disappointed yet think you’ve lost weight so I’m not sure how to answer this. If you are bloated are you constipated? Are you relying too heavily on eggs/dairy as these foods are low in fiber?

      Kind regards

      Amber:)

    • Tola on June 2, 2017

You may have some lactose intolerance. Using your clothes to measure your progress is a good idea. Don’t be too hard on your self. Plan what you are going g to eat a day ahead. Assure you self that even a 1lb loss is progress. Think about it if you give up at this point your body will put the weight back on and then some
Finally go to the next phase of the diet for some variety or to at least retain the results of your hard work

  • Angela Benardi on February 14, 2017

    HI Amber
I am on my 5th day on Dukan.
I lost 1.5kg the first 2 days on attack.
Then I did 2 more days on attack (total 4) without any weight loss. As far as I read 1.5 (or 3 lbs) is what you always lose when you cut cats and release all your water from your body.
Why am I not losing more?
To clarify, I drink plenty of water, I have no costipation because I am on prescribed senna tablets and I have been very strict to my diet. Lean protein, 1,5 T’s bran, 900kg total of skimmed milk and 0 yogurt, not more than 3 glasses of coke zero and beverages with the right sweeteners. I am writing this in case you see anything wrong.
I thought that body tells me I need to go on cruise phase. Any suggestions?

    • Angela Benardi on February 14, 2017

900 grams of dairy of course, not kg haha
Also, because I was used to count calories before, I kept doing it for the record, I was about 1200 a day

    • Amber on February 14, 2017

      Hi Angela

If you have been dieting before starting the Dukan it can reduce the impact of the Attack Phase. It looks as if you are doing everything as you should. Weight loss does appear to be almost mystical as our bodies are very complex. Salt intake and hormones also play a part.

      Best wishes

      Amber:)

      • Angela Benardi on February 14, 2017

Thank you Amber. Yes,you are right, I was dieting before, counting calories, so must be this. Went on phase 2 today anyway and fingers crossed. Thanks a lot
