    Hi Amber,
Thanks for this incredible website! iā€™m on the cruise phase for 2 week now after being on attack for 10 days. I lost close to 6 pounds in attack and now i barely lost since i started cruise.
what can i do to get over this plateau?

    • Amber on February 6, 2016

      Hi Beatley

After a good weight loss in Attack it can take a week or two before you start to see your weight dropping. This is usually due to regaining water weight that takes a while to be replaced by fat loss.

Just be patient and stick with it.

      Take care

    • Ger on September 15, 2016

Hi Amber are Zero Noodles snack pots allowed on attack phase? Thank you. Ger

      • Amber on October 16, 2016

        Hi Ger

As they contain vegetables you would only be able to have them on days you can eat vegatables.

  • Alli on January 16, 2016

This is my second go at dukan. I was very successful in 2012 – lost and kept off 45 lbs for 2 years. I slowly put 20 lbs back on. Recently, I attacked for 5 days and have been in the cruise phase since 1/4/16. My scale says i weigh the same. I feel better, but no weight loss yet.
    Plese help…im struggling.
    Thank you.

    • Amber on February 6, 2016

      Hi Alli

Be patient, the scales will start to show the results of your hard work very soon.

      Kind regards

  • Michele on September 14, 2015

I did the Dukan Diet 4 years ago, very strictly and lost 15 kilos.
Unfortunately I gained them back, I could not walk for six months and out of my frustration started with the wine and sweets.
Anyway for a week I removed sweets and wine and lost nothing.
Started the attack phase and lost 2 kilos. Then last night I ate a handful of Goji berries and gained them back.
Should I leave out the Goji berries in attack phase if they do this ?

    • Amber on September 25, 2015

      Hi Michele

A handful of Goji berries should not have caused such a large weight gain, this would most likely be due to water retention and it normally disappears again over a day or so. As the Goji berries can be a very welcome addition to the Dukan Diet I’d suggest trying them again to see if they produce the same effect again before eliminating them.

  • Manal on September 13, 2015

    Hi Amber,

Fist of all, thank you so much for a great resource site! I’ve learned so much about the Dukkan diet from you.

Today is my first day on Dukkan, and I’m coming off a year of on/off paleo which suited me fine for general health but I wanted to rev up my metabolism a bit and focus on weight loss, as well as cut out sugars, fruits and nuts and Dukkan seems like a great option. I’m really excited!

I would appreciated your opinion on something though. The site recommends that I do Attack for 3 days , Cruise for 44, Consolidation for 63. The thing is I’m on a bit of a schedule as I’m going to travel for a month starting mid Oct and it’s a trip I’ve been waiting for since forever. I don’t think being on a diet as strict as Dukkan is doable on this trip.

I was wondering if it would be feasible to do Attack for 5 days, Cruise for 27 days, then do Stabilization (without going too extreme) for the 30 days I’m traveling then revert back to either Attack or Cruise when I’m back and follow the proper schedule from then.

I would really love to get your thoughts on this.

    • Amber on September 13, 2015

      Hi Manal

Your suggestion is very feasible. On your trip enjoy yourself but where possible limit any damage to your waistline by eating sensibly rather than feasting to excess. When you come back from your trip just continue with Cruise.

      Have a great time

      • Manal on September 20, 2015

Hi Amber, thanks so much for your reply. I read it on the same day and was hoping to have impressive progress to report before I responded. I’m currently on Day 3 of my Cruise Phase, and my results have been good but not spectacular.

I lost about 1.8 kg during the 5 Attack days, but stopped losing and actually gained about half a kilo since I started Cruise. I looked into it and I figured out a couple of things I was doing wrong, so that’s fixed and hoping to report better results soon.

Have you faced a problem with keeping your calorie intake above a certain amount? I’m tracking my calories because I don’t want to dip too low and it seems to me that no matter how much I eat a can barely make it to 1000 or so calories, and that can’t possibly be healthy, since I still work out regularly.

Any advice on upping calorie intake?

        • Amber on September 25, 2015

          Hi Manal

Your calorie intake is lower than would be recommended especially as you want to work out regularly. Try adding a snack a couple of times a day to increase your food intake.

          Kind regards

  • Laura on August 10, 2015

I have the Dukan book and have searched every where online cannot find if I’m allowed pickled herring in attack phase or any
    phase for that matter

    • Amber on August 16, 2015

      Hi Laura

Most herrings are pickled in a solution that contains sugar so they would not be suitable. If you can find one that doesn’t contain any type of sugar that is pickled in just vinegar and seasonings you could have it on any day of any phase as a protein food.

  • Julie on August 10, 2015

    Hi Amber

I’ve been on your fb page, but think maybe it’s not been active for a few months. I’m so pleased I’ve found your page, as this diet can be a little bit of a minefield.
My question is can you use coconut spray oil? I’ve done slimming world before and when they brought this oil out it was free with sw, so I just wondered how it works for dukan. TIA

    Julie šŸ˜˜ xxx

    • Amber on August 10, 2015

      Hi Julie

Not many people post questions on the Facebook page – don’t know why. Coconut oil spray isn’t a Dukan approved food. You can get away with a few minor changes but every change is one step further away from following the Dukan Diet as intended.

      • Julie on August 10, 2015

        Hi Amber

Ah ok, thank you. I’ll post on here then šŸ™‚
Thank you for the reply re coconut oil, I’ll stick to wiping out a drop of olive oil should I need to then.

        Many thanks

  • Natie on August 6, 2015

    Hi Amber,
Is sugar free Jello puddings allowed. Specifically the chocolate and chocolate vanilla swirl kind. Thanks for your help!

    • Amber on August 6, 2015

      Hi Natie

Sorry no – only sugar free gelatin Jello is allowed.

  • Kim on July 26, 2015

Hi Amber, I have just started the cruise phase. I have found some bacon that has 3.5 grams of fat and 1.2 of carbs per 100 g, but it has added sugar, is this allowed? It is from ocado and the brand is Ocado 10 British Smoked Bacon Medallions Sweet Cured 200g. By the way this is a great site. Thanks

    • Amber on August 6, 2015

      Hi Kim

Sorry the added sugar means it isn’t suitable.

  • L on June 9, 2015

    Hi Amber,
Thanks so much for your amazing site!
Can I use skinny pasta on the diet?
I live in Israel and it’s the closest thing I found.

    • Amber on June 16, 2015

      Hi L

If you take a read of the Q & A I’ve copied from Skinny Pasta site you’ll see that Skinny Pasta and Shirataki noddles are the same.

What is Skinny Pasta made from?
Glucomannan is a water-soluble dietary fibre derived from the root of the konjac plant, a type of yam grown predominantly in China. For over 2,000 years, Asian people have reaped the health benefits of glucomannan by using it as a fibre supplement, a sauce thickener and by making noodles from konjac flour. The Chinese refer to these noodles as moyu or juruo. The Japanese call them konnyaku or shirataki.

  • Aisha on May 1, 2015

    Hi, love your site šŸ™‚

I’m on my second day of the cruise phase and I’m noticing that I don’t really feel like eating and easily get full. Is this a normal effect while on the Dukan diet? And do you recommend the food/snacks on the dukan Shop?

    • Amber on May 3, 2015

      Hi Aisha

Protein is very filling and some people do find that they struggle to eat as they don’t feel hungry. I don’t recommend Dr Dukan’s foods/snacks as I think they are very expensive but they are very convenient.

  • Stellina on April 14, 2015

Hi, this is the second time Im on the Dukan Diet. I lost 16kg 2 years ago. To those doing it for the first time this diet truly works my husband lost 10kg. I started off at 76kg and went down to 60kg. I followed it strictly and celebration meals are the best.

Although I maintained it for a year and a half, I managed to slowly put on 7kg (my own fault stress lead to comfort eating and I stopped walking).

Im upset with myself but have started again today. Will it work again second time round? Should I do the recommended 3 day attack phase or maybe a little longer since its the second time. I can’t believe I did this to myself.

Any advice welcome for second round dukan dieters.

    • Amber on April 19, 2015

      Hi Stellina

The Dukan does work the 2nd time around but everyone says it takes longer. This is because usually there is less weight to lose and because you have proabably already incorporated many of the Dukan ways into your eating habits so it isn’t such a drastic change.

The best advice I can give is to stick with it and be patient.

      Best wishes

      • Ali Stevenson on February 23, 2016

Thanks for this information Amber. Like Stellina I started the Dukan Diet around 3 years ago and lost 30lbs in around 6 months!! Can’t quite believe it myself. Maintained for around 2 years then became complacent and took my eye off the ball and on to the biscuits, bread and butter šŸ™‚ I knew my weight was creeping up but was shocked to realise that I’ve gained nearly 15lbs. What an idiot. I’m ready and raring to start again and am wondering if it’s worth investing in the new book or should I go back and follow my old and trusted original book?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

        • Amber on February 23, 2016

          Hi Ali

Go with you old tried and trusted book to start with. If you find you want more variety you can always switch later.

          Best wishes

  • Mary on April 7, 2015

    Hi, thanks for this site!

Are kippered snack (smoked herring) allowed in any phases?

    • Amber on April 10, 2015

      Hi Mary

Yes you can have smoked herring as a protein food in any phase of the Dukan but it isn’t a food you should eat a lot of or it may start to interfere with your weight loss.

      Best wishes

    • Lucy on April 12, 2015

I am just about to start the attack phase. Can I still eat questbars? They are proteinbars with close to zero sugar.
The reason why I would like to have them is that I often have no time to cook and also want to avoid funny questions from colleagues.

      Many thanks in advance.

      • Amber on April 12, 2015

        Hi Lucy

Sorry but Quest bars aren’t allowed and I’m not sure that you can follow the Dukan Diet without someone noticing that you’ve changed your eating habits. You might be better following a calorie controlled diet where you can eat a greater variety of foods.

        Kind regards

  • Nikki on March 31, 2015

    Hi Amber.
    1) Daft question but…can shiritaki noodles cause water retention? I gained nearly 2lb on a pp day and can’t figure why but I seem to gain every time I have them.
    2) I also gained when I had plain fat free natural yoghurt – can you have too much??
I’m just stuck. Tried fennel tea, white day and nothing
    3) Been on thyroxine since Jan, just increased to 50mg. Can it stop the diet working???

Thanks for listening. Hope u can help!!

    • Amber on April 1, 2015

      Hi Nikki

1.I found this article online. This lady experience weight gain due to the bulk of the noodles going through her system.
      2. You can have too much yogurt but 3 isn’t too many.
      3. If you look at my earlier answer you’ll that there are some reports online of thyroxine causing weight gain and I suggested a quick chat with your doctor to let them know about the difficulties you are havbing losing weight.

I’m starting the nutritional staircase diet tomorrow and was really worried that I didn’t have a lot of info on it. After finding this website I feel so much happier. It’s full of great recipes and explains the diet better in your recent couple of posts regarding it too.

    Thank you šŸ™‚

  • Katherine H on March 4, 2015

I just finished up a 5 day attack phase and by the morning of day 5, I lost nearly 6lbs. However when I went to weigh my self on the 1st morning of the cruise phase, I had gained back a pound! I did cheat a bit on day 5 and had a very small handful of peanuts and a single bite of pinto beans. Is that the reason? Surely that could’nt account for a whole pound, could it?

    • Amber on March 4, 2015

      Hi Katherine

Some of it might be due to the peanuts and pinto beans the rest is probably due to a little bit of water retention from the vegetables you’ve now added to your diet.

      Best wishes

  • Len on February 11, 2015

    Hi amber,

Im on cruise phase and today is the 10th day of diet.
I’ve lost 4kilos already but there are a few aches on the sides of my abdomen( left and right). I’m drinking a lot of water probably more than two liters a day. Could you please advise me what to do.

    • Amber on February 11, 2015

      Hi Len

You need to get yourself checked out by a doctor to make sure the abdominal pains aren’t anything that needs his attention. I’d also ask him about the amount you are drinking as excessive thirst can be a symptom of other problems.

      Kind regards

  • Ehm on February 7, 2015

Hello, just writing because I have just finished the attack phase and am moving to the PV phase. I have lost 10 1/2 lbs in 5 days. I did not find the attack phase difficult and my meals always left me full. I do have a question. I noticed that later on in Stabilization we can eat bread. I only eat white bread which is milled where I live. The wheat they grow here has not been GMOd. I also note that, prior to starting my diet, when I was eating this bread and using this flour, that my joints did not bother me. After researching bread and flour, I have come to the conclusion that whole wheat bread is, over the long term, very unhealthy. I am a strong supporter of white bread made with wheat that has not been tampered with. Ok, that is my rant….. Am looking forward to the next phase of the diet. Feel Great!

  • Helen on January 4, 2015

Hello, I am traveling and was wondering what Oat biscuits I can have in order to substitute the Dukan Biscuits?

    • Amber on January 4, 2015

      Hi Helen

There are no substitutes for the Dukan biscuits/cookies but these products are eaten as tolerated foods and are not essential to the success of the diet. They are not a replacement for the daily serving of Oat bran.

      Kind reagrds

  • Bob lipp on October 23, 2014

I have lost 43 pounds since starting diet in late June 2014. I am at goal weight and have started consolidation stage. I will be on first stage for 31/2 months then second stage for additional 31/2 months. I enjoy the diet and find no hardship finding foods to eat. My question is must I eat two slices of whole grain bread, 11/2 ounces of cheese and a fruit every day, except on PP days? I have been on this stage for over a week and have not gained any weight, but have lost another pound.

    • Amber on October 28, 2014

      Hi Bob

Congratulations and you are doing really well. You need to try to eat the additional foods added every day if you can except for Dukan Thursdays.

      Best wishes

  • Marianka on October 22, 2014

    Hello Amber,
I currently am at the first half of the consolidation phase, and noticed I keep on losing weight (at a slower rate of course, but still do).
Just for the reference I do not consume any tolerated foods, I only have the dessert at the celebration meal, have two PP days per week, generally follow the rules carefully, and do a lot of exercise.
Any ideas on how to prohibit the additional weigth loss as I’m really happy with my current weight and physique?
    Thanks in advance!

    • Amber on October 22, 2014

      Hi Marianka

I’d drop the extra PP day you have in your routine – there is only one day needed on Dukan Thursday – every other day is a PV day with the additional foods added in.

      Best wishes
